I have known this woman for almost 20 years as her granddaughter and I are good friends. I spent many weekends at her house swimming in her pool that was the shape of a foot, skiing on her property, going on nature walks and eating her marvelous food. I call her my Gramcracker. We are not related but she's as family to me as it gets. She makes this salad dressing that I couldn't ever get enough of. Every meal she made for me included salad and that dressing. I would put more dressing in my salad bowl than vegetables. I swear it is the best salad dressing in the whole entire world, hands down! One year she shared that recipe with me along with a recipe for her mushroom dip (another fav of mine) To this day, I still eat this dressing and swear there is nothing better. I have a bottle in my fridge at home and one at work. Recently I started medicating it. Maybe I'll have to give her a sample...
I have been speaking with my friend about Gramcracker's health and how she could benefit from cannabis for a while now. My friend, let's call her Leigh, was scared. Gramcracker was her grandmother. She didn't want her grandma getting "high" and unable to function. I could understand her concerns. Gramcracker is almost 91, weighs about 75lbs and had never even held cannabis in her hands before. Leigh and I have had many conversations about the Canna Balm I make. I've told her how it has helped me and told her about testimonials others have sent me. She became much more interested in telling her grandma about the balm when she found out that Gramcracker would not have any head effects( "high") while using the balm - it works where she puts it. Early this week, Leigh called me and told me that she wanted balm for Gramcracker because she was in so much pain and the pills she was prescribed we knocking her out. I told her I could give it to a friend to get it to her but I would really like to go see Gramcracker so we can talk about her concerns and explain what she may be feeling once the medicine started kicking in. So that's exactly what we did.
Today I went up to visit. Gramcracker took a while to get downstairs as she needs assistance and also uses a walker to get around the house. I was in no hurry. I just wanted to see her as it had been months since I last did. She was excited to see me and I was super excited to see her! When she sat down at the table, I started explaining how cannabis helps alleviate pain. Pain is her #1 problem right now. She just wants to live in comfort and not spend her days in the same position to avoid the pain she feels when she moves. Within 20 minutes of talking, I asked her if she would like me to apply balm to her neck. She didn't hesitate and said yes. After applying the balm, I asked her if she would like to try the cookie. We started off with 1/8 of a cookie. She was unsure if she felt anything as she had never experienced cannabis before. She may have not noticed but her face was bright and she was smiling, looking more comfortable than earlier. I brought my Iolite along with me hoping that she would be interested in trying it out. She was interested. I showed her how to fill and medicate with the Iolite, I handed the devise to her. She inhaled a small amount of vapour and I finished the rest. She still wasn't sure if it was working - but I knew it was.
After an hour or so of chatting I asked Gramcracker if I could take a picture with her. She got up out of her chair quickly, well quicker than I had thought she would. There was light behind us so the person taking the picture asked us to move out of the light. Gramcracker walked over to the other end of the long table we were sitting at and we took the picture posted above. After the picture was taken, she casually walked back to her seat - SANS WALKER! I told her the cannabis must be doing something for that to happen. Before I left I made sure she was clear on dosages and storage of edibles. I told her to call me if she had any questions and that I would be calling her in a couple days to see how she's feeling.
♥ I encourage you (the reader) to talk to seniors about cannabis. Many do not know about the healing powers this plant has. The stigma attached to cannabis can be removed - we just need to educate! ♥
