I knew I was going to the Budweiser New Music Fest in Barrie on Saturday BUT I didn't realize this was gonna be THE weekend my summer of 2014 memories were gonna be made of… let me explain:
I've wanted to take my son to a show with me for a very long time. I actually made it a goal that my son’s first show would be Classified. Why? Well because I love Classified’s music! It’s very positive, motivating and did I mention CANADIAN!?! The problem is most shows aren't all ages and quite frankly aren't places for 7 year old children to be. However, this was an all ages event and this was the perrrrrfect time and place. It was outdoors, it was family friendly… and Classified was headlining the event. So I was ELATED!! This was it!! My goal was happening.
I had to work Saturday so I woke up early, got dressed and gave my son the fabulous news that we’d be going to meet Classified later that night. He really likes Inner Ninja and Oh, Canada. I told him we’d get to dance on the stage to those songs in like 12 hours. He got excited! After all that I headed to CannDo, my shop I recently opened up downtown. When I arrived, I got a phone call from a friend saying Action Bronson was in town and was probably gonna stop by. KEWL! I love that dude. He’s a dab-pro-extraordinaire!! I called my friend Dan and asked him if he could come over and bring a new nail as mine was not at the shop for some weird reason and there was no way I wasn't gonna have a nail here waiting for when Bronson arrived.
A few hours passed and in walks Bronson and Mark (another super chill guy).. and The Alchemist!!! We did some dabs and talked about the show Bronson is doing called “Fuck That’s Delicious” and how we wanted to do a show together. For those that don’t know Action Bronson is a serrrrrrious chef! After chillin out for a bit they had to go. Bronson had a performance to get to and I had to close the shop and head to Barrie. They told me they’d stop by tomorrow and return my torch (I let them borrow) before they left the city. I hugged them all goodbye and then started getting in “YAY my son’s coming to a show with me” mode
Once the shop was closed my friend Alisha and her daughter Jade came to meet me. They brought My son with them so we didn’t have to backtrack to pick him up. We were Barrie bound!!! Quick stop for some McDonald’s and we were on our way. I called Brian (DjIV - Classified’s Dj and a hell of a good friend of mine) and let him know our ETA. Him and Elijah set it up so I just had to tell security my name and drive on in - which we did. As soon as we got out of the car my son basically ran on the tour bus. He was chatting up everybody and eating all the veggies. The smile on his face was priceless!! I was a happy Mom! Sebastian and Jade spent most of their time on the bus while I was just outside of it talking to friends. I walked in and asked him if he was behaving and Mike Boyd said ”Yup! We’re talking about cartoons” hahah - that’s my boy :)
Their set was about to start so I grabbed Sebastian and we all went to the side stage. At first my son was scared but he quickly got excited when the music started. We danced and danced and… ninja’d! Mike brought Sebastian over a sword and we kept doing ninja moves. I was having the time of my life - GOAL ACCOMPLISHED!!! :D My friend Dutch tried to bring Sebastian up by the Dj booth but he was too scared but later on he said he wished he’d went (next time babes<3)
After their set was over we went back to the bus. Brian got Sebastian another sword so he practiced his suuuper ninja moves while Alisha and I said goodbye to everyone. It was late and the kids needed to go to bed(although they didn’t want to leave). I thanked Brian for making my son feel like a rockstar and then said my goodbyes to everybody else. Honestly it was THE BEST night of my summer. I know the summer isn’t over but i bet I’ll be saying the same exact thing at the end of the summer.
Woke up Sunday and I had to head to my shop CannDo. We are closed Sundays but I had some paperwork to do. On my way down I got a txt from mark saying they were on their way- perfect! I had just enough time to go grab Kayla from Vapor Central. I ran into VC quickly while she grabbed rubbing alcohol and then we went to my spot. They arrived shortly after we did. I talked to Alchemist a bit while Kayla and Bronson set up dabs. He’s one super humble man! I told him he’s always welcome back and to call whenever he’s in the city. Def a solid guy!
After some smoke and some dabs they had to catch their flight back home. They gave me a few things to hold on to till the next time they came and then once again, we said our goodbyes. I really like when Bronson stops in. He’s very educated and can dab like no other- always good times when he’s around!!
So now you know why this this weekend was so fabulous for me - GOAL ACCOMPLISHED and I got to see some of my out of town friends I wasn’t expecting ANDDDDDDD my son loved every minute of it and wants to go back again!
