On August 22nd 2011 while walking to the bus stop I checked my emails and read the devastating news - Jack Layton had passed away from cancer. My eyes welled up with tears and all I could think about was the reply he had sent me to a letter I had sent to him and a few MP's about my concerns with Bill S-10. Jack responded with a sincere letter addressing all my concerns. It made me feel like I was listened to. Even if it was only for the brief 3 minutes it took to read, I felt heard. The other MP's sent generic letters back. In fact, a few of my friends got identical letters when they sent their letters of concern.
Saturday August 29th I joined what looked like most of Toronto and lined the streets to say good-bye to Jack. He gave our country hope for a better tomorrow. I thank him for the positive leadership he showed our country and for everything our youth will do in the future because of his inspiration. RIP Jack Layton. You will be missed by an entire country
